Modesto Corderi


Modesto Corderi Novoa is a PhD student supervised by Professor Dr. María Pilar García Mayo at the University of the Basque Country. He obtained his BA with honors in Chinese Philology at Beijing Language and Culture University in China (2011). He also holds two masters: Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages MTCSOL at Beijing Language and Culture University in China (2017) and an MA in Education Training for Professional, Secondary and Language Teachers from the International University of Valencia (VIU) (2017). In addition, he obtained a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate from The University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia (2006). Modesto has worked as a Chinese teacher at Tsinghua University in Beijing (2015), as a Spanish teacher at The George Washington University in Washington D.C. (2016), at Instituto Cervantes de Pekín (2007-2012) and at several universities, high schools and corporations in China. He also holds a Computer Engineering Technical degree from University of Vigo (2006). Modesto currently works at the Xunta de Galicia local government Escuela Oficial de Idiomas as a Chinese teacher and teacher-training specialist. His current PhD thesis revolves around the use of drama techniques in the Chinese classroom. He had previously been awarded Fundación Pedro Barrié de la Maza and Confucius Institute scholarships.



Research Interests

Language pedagogy and the use of new teaching methods in the language classroom, specifically the use of drama techniques in language teaching and learning. Teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
